But you might want to be careful how you do it – especially, be sure you don’t send boilerplate copy that you don’t even bother to customize correctly!

OK… what went wrong here?

1. That’s not my website.
2. Since that’s not my website, his assessment (not on social media, # of backlinks in Google) is worthless, eroding his credibility.
3. See his PS2. I don’t advertise online, so his credibility is shot.

The takeaway as you work to get writing clients: Be legit. Better to send out 5-10 high-quality emails with accurate information than to blast a million website owners with junk email.
