I love Paypal. Nothing like instant money.

Direct deposit’s cool, too. Instant, automatic money.

But there’s something great about getting a check in the mail, too. That “something” is not having any fees taken out. Nothing like getting ALL of your writing fee!

As you learn how to get paid to blog, write articles, press release, and all the other writing projects you’ll be doing, here’s your answer as any client asks about payment methods:

Yes!

Just keep in mind there are trade-offs to every payment method you might accept.

• Checks are great because you get paid in full… but they take a while and require a trip to the bank.
• Paypal’s great because it’s instant… but they take a bite out of every dollar you get paid.
• Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or direct deposit is great because it’s also instant… but again, you may have a processing fee that nibbles away at your income. Plus, not many clients are able to pay this way.

Some writers accept credit cards. That’s always an option, and your clients can use credit cards to pay via Paypal. If you want to accept plastic without Paypal, you’ll need a merchant account and a payment gateway. This gets a little complicated, and involves a credit check and monthly fees. Worth it for some, but I canceled mine a couple of years ago.

So… back to those checks. Nothing feels nicer than having checks mixed in with that stack of bills!
